Is there a Medicare rebate for counselling ?

I'm a qualified and registered member of the Australian Counselling Association. Currently, Medicare does not provide a rebate for our sessions, although the cost is similar to the gap paid for a registered psychologist. Counsellors are trained, objective professionals with whom you can build a healing and trusting relationship. Counselling is a process of discussing and working through your personal issues, challenges, and goals. The counsellor helps you address your problems positively by clarifying issues, exploring options, developing strategies, and increasing your self-awareness. Counselling provides confidential support, and everything you discuss with the counsellor is confidential. The only exception is when a counsellor has a duty of care to report something that threatens your wellbeing or the wellbeing of others. Anyone who is struggling with a personal concern can seek counselling. No issue is too big or too small to seek support.
